Finding a proper backpack/rucksack

Before starting to look for travel gear, I had no idea what a rucksack was. For me, backpack is a backpack, but apparently “rucksack” is what you call the “travel backpack” or “tourist backpack”.

We started looking around and our first (and last) stop was GoOutdoors. We already had experience with what they sell as we’ve got most of our camping equipment from them and we are pretty happy with it and the price/quality ratio you get for the money.
After looking for about 30 minutes and trying at least 8 different rucksacks with price range from £30 to £150, we choose our top 3 and decided to go with Hi Gear Tibet 65 + 10. At the time of writing, the price for this one is £49.99 which is pretty good for the quality and space you get.

Other candidates were Berghaus Trailhead 65 and OEX Vallo 70+10 but they felt somehow uncomfortable when you put them on.

Having so many pockets is always good. Especially if you have to reach something you’ve packed at the bottom, the 2 side pockets (left and right) are really useful.
I also like the idea of having a rain cover but hopefully I won’t have to use it and the weather will be as good as in the summer. (P.S. Isn’t it always warm in Cuba?)

Here is a very good video on YouTube describing all the benefits you get. I hope 65L will be enough to fit all the gear and just a few clothes so I don’t walk naked in Cuba 🙂

P.S. I really have to start taking my own photos and publish them here instead of google-ing for the right ones…
